Jim Fitzhenry and his wife Michelle are co-owners of Roy Manufacturing. Prior to purchasing Roy, Jim was President and CEO of Schmitt Industries, Inc., a publicly traded test and measurement equipment company headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Jim also served for 15 years as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at FLIR Systems, a technology company based in Portland specializing in thermal imaging sensors and systems. Raised in Oregon, Jim is thrilled to continue the legacy of Roy Manufacturing in Portland and to work with such great people there.
Chris Job is the General Manager and part owner of Roy Manufacturing. Chris joined Roy to focus on business operations and development. Chris comes to Roy with over 20 years experience in management, product development, sales and marketing. Prior to joining Roy, he most recently oversaw a product line for a Portland area high tech company that provided satellite based remote monitoring systems. Chris grew up in the NW and served in the US Marine Corps for eight years, including a tour of duty in Iraq. Chris has 5 children with his wife Eugenie. Outside of work, he helps manage a regional soccer league and enjoys raising his English bulldogs.
Kirk Gilbertson handles inside sales and all programming for Roy Manufacturing. Kirk has been with Roy for almost 20 years. Before coming to Roy he had 12 years of experience in the precision sheet metal industry spanning all aspects of fabrication, production and machining. He went to college for CAD design and is Roy’s resident drafter/CAD person. Kirk is one of the reasons that Roy has a national reputation for excellence and expertise. In his spare time you can catch him jumping out of airplanes as a tandem instructor on most sunny weekends
Kelly Gilgan is the Plant Manager of Roy Manufacturing. A 40+ year employee, Kelly knows everything there is to know about metals and materials perforation. He knows every square inch of every punch press, shear machine and press break at the company. A lifelong resident of Portland, Kelly is one of the reasons Roy has a reputation for quality and responsiveness. When not working, Kelly and his wife Karyn enjoy camping. Kelly is also an avid motorcyclist.
Shorty, a Chihuahua, is Roy Manufacturing’s mascot and a native Oregonian. He began his career at Roy Manufacturing in 2008 as a one-man official welcoming committee. His position is and remains Chief Perf Dog. When not welcoming customers, one of Shorty’s favorite past times is taking long walks on the Oregon Coast.
Laverne Bradley is the Office Manager and Accountant for Roy. She has worked at Roy for over 20 years and started her career in public accounting, specializing in small business, estates and trusts. LaVerne handles not only office operations and accounting, but also manages the sale of Roy’s extensive inventory of stock perforated products. She is relentlessly focused on our customers and on providing excellent customer service. When not at Roy, LaVerne loves gardening, travel and taking scenic walks with her dog Shorty.
Joel Bristol is shop Foreman and in addition to machine operation also handles all shearing plus shipping and receiving at Roy. A Portland native, Joel has been at Roy for over 20 years. His experience is varied, from computer science to the apparel/footwear industry. Joel is another reason why Roy Manufacturing boasts deep expertise in the metals and materials perforation industry and enjoys a reputation for being the best in the business. Joel has long been associated with his red beard and his love and knowledge of cigars.
Dave McElmurry is a one of our CNC punch press operators. A native Portlander, Dave has worked at Roy for over 36 years beginning in the welding shop and remembers when Roy operated “hand crank fed” punch presses. He witnessed the installation of the company’s first CNC hydraulic punch press and continues to operate them to this day. There is no more experienced operator in the industry, and he loves seeing the continually expanding applications for perforated metals and materials.
Nick Beko is our newest CNC punch press operator, and has been with Roy Manufacturing for two and a half years. A native of Portland, Nick has been involved in a number of manufacturing and machining fields, including auto and truck part production. Nick enjoys working at Roy and making all kinds of perforated products.
Roy Manufacturing was founded in 1958 by Roy O. Young, a young accountant for the J.J. Ross Mill Finishing Co., a seed cleaning and mill manufacturing company with a materials perforation department.
When J.J. Ross decided to close its perforation department, Roy Young purchased the department and opened the business at the same location Roy Manufacturing is located at today, in the Mississippi Neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.
In 1958, Roy Manufacturing started with one building and three perforation machines. Today, Roy operates out of four buildings with eight CNC controlled turret punch presses, ranging from 30 ton to 50 ton punching capacity.
In the early 70’s, Hank Mathews and John Clark purchased the business from Roy Young after careful vetting. Roy cared so much about a proper hand off of his business that he required Hank to work for Roy Manufacturing before approving of the sale!
In 2005, Hank sold the company to Carl Foster, founder of a well known accounting firm, and Jayant Ingle, a former technology executive from Tektronix, Inc. Jayant ran the Company as General Manager, and worked with Carl to continue growing the company in both production output and its reputation for expertise, excellent products and customer service.
In 2016, the Company was purchased by Jim and Michelle Fitzhenry and Chris Job. Both Jim and Chris were alumni of Schmitt Industries, Inc., with long resumes that range from high tech business management to tours of duty with the U.S. Government. Michelle has a background in investor relations and communications with a publicly traded timber company and owns another business, operating Occasions Fine Gifts for over 15 years.
Today, Chris runs the Company as General Manager, carrying on Roy’s legacy of exceptional customer service and industry-leading expertise in materials perforation production. Both Chris and Jim are committed to growing Roy Manufacturing and maintaining its reputation as a business known to “punch” above its weight!
